Air Plant Terrarium

Do It Yourself (DIY) Air Plant Terrarium

The great thing about air plants, is that they only need two things to stay vibrant and continue to grow! Air plants only need air and a monthly bath to weekly misting. That's what makes creating an air plant terrarium so much fun, you can use whatever you want! The main thing to keep in mind is to make sure you have easy access to remove your air plants for watering.

Step-by-step Instructions

The concept behind what defines a terrarium, is the layering of materials. With succulents and cacti, this is required. Their roots grow out of these nutrients. Air plants don't need anything but air and water. You will need to water your air plants on a monthly basis, bathing your air plants. Ensure your air plant is completely dry before adding it back to your terrarium. This will avoid water marks and molding in your terrarium.

  1. Add a base layer. You can showcase the bottom of your glassware or use rocks and sand to create your base layer. This is totally up to you!
  2. Add decorative pieces. Incorporate fun materials such as faux diamonds and pearls, funky rocks, moss, bark or sentimental memorabilia.
  3. Add your air plants, placing them into your terrarium. You will need to be gentle with them. Air plants should not be glued or tightly squeeze into place, this can damage their leaves. If transporting your air plant terrarium note they will move around, re-arrange once they are placed in their new home. Be sure to keep them in a bright space.
