Terrarium Touchup

Take care of your Terrarium

Terrariums are a great introduction to understanding plants. Building a terrarium teaches you how to create a mini ecosystem of your own! Each terrarium is different. There are both closed and open terrariums and then there are different plant assortments you can place in your terrarium. With succulents there is a particular set of instructions required to ensure your little succulent buddy thrives in it's new, beautiful terrarium home!

Why touch up your terrarium?

Nutrients Refresh

When building your terrarium, you set your succulent on top of a bed of soil. Over time your succulent settles and root. Soil is where your succulent feeds to grow! The soil you place your succulent on will be moist enough to last your succulent through several months, approximately 6-7 at most. There is no need to water your succulent in your terrarium. You may see the bottom leaves of your succulent shrivelled and dried out. Dried bottom leaves indicate growth of your succulent not a dried succulent.

If you built your terrarium without sand and moss as a coating layer and is receiving direct sun, your succulents environment may dry up the soil much quicker. We would recommend for you to refresh your terrarium. You will want to properly layer your terrarium with these required materials.

Won't have to water

You should see your succulent grow within 3-5 months. Succulent terrariums are very contradictory to how you take care of houseplants. Terrariums are low maintenance, meaning they don't need much attention. Refrain from watering your terrarium and instead allow your succulent to grow in it's environment. After approximately 5-6 months, you will notice the bottom leaves of your succulent have dried out and that your succulent has grown. This indicates it is time for you to freshen up your terrarium or water your succulent!

Aesthetic Decor

Terrariums make beautiful decor, they add a pinch of life into your space. Everyone builds their terrarium differently. The important thing is the functionality and ability for your succulent to survive.

As long as you have built the soil bed and placed your succulent where it can grow and eat off of the nutrients of your soil it will grow. You can add beautiful sand top layer, this will keep nutrients contained. Add rocks and memorabilia to your terrarium to match and accompany your decor and personality!
